Uninstalling and reinstalling the application usually resolves the problem. We may be able to get the program installed in our lab here on a Windows 2003 machine so we can try to replicate your exact issue. This should stop the "The description for Event ID...." message. The right one to look for is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\eventlog\Application\Microsoft-Windows-WMI which was completely missing.
